Mark William Sommerfield Design (MWS Design) is a collaborative design firm that specializes in tailored, layered interiors which are sophisticated and whimsical. Combining a thorough knowledge of antiques, architecture and artistic resources, designs are fabricated with color, sumptuous fabrics, antique, dramatic design elements and classic proportion.

MWS Design has worked all over the country, San Francisco, Sonoma, Santa Barbara, Houston, New York, Miami, and Hawaii. We specialize in high-end, detail-oriented projects and have a presence in San Francisco and Houston.

It is our mission to develop and express our client’s innate design. The answers to lifestyle questions are interpreted along with the customer’s own ideas and a dialogue ensures. It is through this dialogue that a design evolves that creates a beautiful, livable home or workspace.

In other words, our product ultimately reflects your personality and provides the backdrop for the occasions of your lives.

The design dialogue occurs in steps. First, is the exploratory process described above. Second, a comprehensive design plan and budget is developed. Third we provide and coordinate the resources to bring this vision to fruition within a specified timeframe. Fourth, we follow up to make sure deadlines are met, the budget is adhered to, and ask the customer for feedback during the process. All major purchases and custom orders are subject to your approval. We want you to be happy and comfortable in your new setting whether a whole house or a single room, we want you to recommend us.

From suites at the Ritz Carlton, to estates on the Big Island of Hawaii, to a Gramercy Park Co-op and a Japanese house, our abilities are broad and varied and suit the needs of our customers.

MWS Design has worked with clients who have with allergies, and has competency in green design and construction. Mark W. Sommerfield, Principal, has both a Civil Engineering degree from Lehigh University and a MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. His design education was completed at UCLA and UC Berkeley, it continues even today.
